Jordan keen on military co-op
Jordan intends to develop military cooperation with Azerbaijan, its chief of defense, Gen. Khaled Jamil al-Sarayah said on a visit to Baku Thursday.
The statement was made in a meeting with Defense Minister Safar Abiyev that focused on related issues, including training of military personnel and purchases of weaponry.
Abiyev said the experience of the Jordanian army which stands out for its high discipline would be very beneficial for Azerbaijan.
He termed as successful the first meeting of the Azerbaijani-Jordanian commission on defense cooperation held in the past days.
"The protocol on cooperation in the field of defense we signed today will open up broad opportunities for the development of military cooperation in the future."
Speaking of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Upper (Nagorno) Garabagh, Abiyev reiterated Azerbaijan`s intransigent stance, saying his country will take resolute action if peace efforts aimed at liberating the country`s territories currently under Armenian occupation fail to produce result. He reminded that the 15-year-long efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group brokering the peace process have been fruitless so far.
The Jordanian general expressed support for Baku`s fair stance. "If the conflict is not resolved in peace, Azerbaijan has a full right to free its occupied regions."
