23 July 2008 19:25 (UTC+04:00)
Romanian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Nikolae Ureche on Monday started a visit to the Tovuz district on the frontline with Armenia.
The visit to last several days is being paid on the invitation of Ganira Pashayeva, who has been elected parliament member from the district.
Pashayeva told AssA-Irada that the diplomat would visit the frontline villages, become familiar with Tovuz and visit an alley of martyrs in the city center.
Tovuz shares an over 70 km border with Armenia and many of its villages are located on the contact line of the Azeri and Armenian troops.
"Armenians violate ceasefire every now and then, opening fire at the villages stretching along the border and the people living there," she said.
According to Pashayeva, the ambassador will have the opportunity to witness firsthand the atrocities committed by Armenian vandals against Azeris on a daily basis as well as the conditions of local residents, in particular, Garabagh war veterans.
Pashayeva emphasized that Romania unequivocally backed Azerbaijan`s position on the Upper (Nagorno) Garabagh conflict and the country`s territorial integrity.
"A visit to the frontline by this country`s representative in Azerbaijan could be of certain importance for conveying the realities about Garabagh to Romania and the entire world community," the lawmaker said.
