22 journalists faced pressure over six months: local group
One journalist on average was either threatened, beaten or faced
pressure in Azerbaijan nearly every week in the past six months, a
local group claims.
According to research on media representatives` legal problems conducted by the Local Media Rights Institute in the first half-year, cases of intimidation and lawsuits brought against journalists have increased in recent years. The group documented 22 such facts in January-June.
Since 2003, 150 such instances have taken place. Only twice have those responsible for the pressure been held accountable. The other cases were not investigated, the institute said.
