Baku discontent with OSCE body`s report
The Azerbaijani government is discontent with the assessment by a
mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human
Rights (ODIHR) on the country`s meeting the required international
standards, a senior official has said.
The head of the President`s Office socio-political department, Ali Hasanov, was commenting on the report drawn up by ODIHR representatives in conclusion of their visit to Azerbaijan which criticized pre-election climate in the country.
The mission expressed concern over the enforcement of the Law on Freedom of Assembly and emphasized that most of the opposition is boycotting the presidential election coming up in October.
"These kinds of statements by OSCE ODIHR have always been seen equivocally by the Azerbaijani public as such reports are merely based on certain assumptions and raise doubts."
Hasanov said it should be clarified "who conducts such monitoring, how this is done and where".
"Someone`s political assumptions cannot be grounds for OSCE`s feedback," he said.
