Bush`s cousin visits Baku

16 July 2008 18:56 (UTC+04:00)
US President George Bush`s cousin John Walker has visited Baku to hold discussions on the rule of law and the development of Azerbaijan`s judiciary system.
Walker, who is a senior circuit judge on the US Court of Appeals, met with local judges and parliament members during the five-day visit. He said he had been visiting the former Soviet countries for five years.
"The judiciary system is of great importance in these countries. But this system should be quite transparent," the US judge said, adding that efforts should be made to gain public confidence in judiciary systems.
Walker attended the Continuing Legal Education/Criminal Law seminar on Thursday. The seminar for prosecutors and advocates on the Rule of Law and Judicial Independence was organized by the American Bar Association Central European and Eurasian Law Initiative (ABA CEELI) with the support of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the US Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.
