Foreign Ministry welcomes return of Azerbaijani citizens detained in Iran

It is pleasant that the citizens of Azerbaijan detained in Iran returned to their homeland. This shows that the state headed by the president is always ready to protect its citizens, Foreign Ministry spokesman Elman Abdullayev said at a news briefing.

"Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry has repeatedly called on for vigilance citizens who visit Iran," Abdullayev added.

Researcher of the Institute of Literature of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences Khalida Ismayilova (Khalida Khalid) and her driver Shamkhal Huseynov released from detention in Iran returned to Baku.

Khalida Khalid refused from making comments at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport.

Orientalist Khalida Khalid and her assistant Huseynov were arrested in Tabriz on April 30 by employees of the Iranian Ministry of Information, Security and Intelligence, the Iranian media reported earlier.

Azerbaijan delivered two notes to the Iranian Foreign Ministry in connection with the detention of its citizens.
