The International Dialogue for Environmental Action (IDEA) campaign held an interactive workshop on World Environment Day called "Azerbaijani ecosystems and landscape diversity" on June 5.

The World Environment Day is celebrated annually to raise global awareness of the need to take environmental action.

The event, which involved students interested in environmental protection and teachers dealing with this field, took place at the IDEA Resource Center.

Prof. Elman Yusifov, a department head at the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Zoology Institute, attended the workshop as an expert.

Yusifov provided detailed information about the Azerbaijani fauna and flora, reasons for landscape diversity, as well as diversity of the fauna and flora of plains and mountains.

He said that Azerbaijan possesses beautiful nature, rich flora and fauna, and useful natural resources.

The seminar, which was joined by over 20 young people, featured interesting discussions on environmental protection.

IDEA has been promoting innovative approaches to the solution of environmental problems since its inception on July 12, 2011 by the Vice President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva.

IDEA is based on the principles of dialogue, action, leadership and education -- all essential components for equipping a generation to foster positive and sustainable environmental change. The campaign is mainly focusing on the power of youth and considers it as an important tool to change the way we behave and consume our surrounding natural world.

The campaign's mission includes creation of a real and virtual community of young people regionally and internationally, with a shared passion for the environment, nurturing virtual community through an open dialogue which provides information, inspiration and practical calls for environmental action, as well as empowering each member of the community to become an ambassador and leader for local environmental awareness and action.
