German MP issues statement on Nagorno-Karabakh conflict
Thomas Bareiss, the Christian Democratic Union member of the German Bundestag, permanent member of the Committee of European Affairs, has issued a statement on the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the European Azerbaijan Society (TEAS) said.
The statement says: "The German Bundestag will contribute to the
efforts for a sustainable peace agreement between the sides. In
order to be able to offer to the displaced people a permanent and
safe return to their homeland it is important to return the
occupied Azerbaijani territories of Nagorno-Karabakh and the
adjacent Azerbaijani regions. We, therefore, support the Minsk
Group's call for UN engagement.
"In making the necessary effort for a quick and sustainable
solution of the conflict, we must also consider the interests of
the refugees and IDPs. This is why, to uphold European interests,
we are committed to see the rapid implementation not only of the
decisions of the Minsk Group, but of all resolutions of the United
Nations, the Council of Europe and the OSCE."
Thomas Bareiss also notes that the relations between Germany and Azerbaijan are based on open exchanges of views in different areas at high level: "Past decades have shown that peace is a vital condition for the security of prosperity and progress of all nations. We, therefore, wish to intensify and extend the bilateral relations on all levels, firstly in order to permanently guarantee the security and safety of our Azerbaijani partners, secondly in order to work together towards a solution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict."
