Azerbaijani clerical leader to visit Iran

Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Office, Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade, will visit Iran on May 18, spokesperson for the Caucasian Muslims' Office Rahima Dadashova told Trend news agency on May 15.

She said that Pashazade will visit Iran at the invitation of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, which was made four months ago.

Pashazade plans to meet with Iranian officials during the visit.

The visit will not include discussions regarding the release of Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) research fellow Khalida Khalid and her driver Shamhal Huseynov who are being detained in Iran, Dadashova said.

"The Foreign Ministry is dealing with the release of Azerbaijani citizens detained in Iran," she added. "But if this issue is being discussed during meetings in Iran, the Sheikh will express his attitude."

Iranian Intelligence and Security Service (ETTELAT) detained Khalida Khalid and Shamkhal Huseynov in Iran on April 30.
