Czech Republic backs Azeri integrity
The Czech Republic recognizes Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity
and inviolability of borders, its foreign minister Karel
Schwarzenberg said on a visit to Baku Friday.
"The Czech government supports a swift and negotiated settlement to the Armenia-Azerbaijan Upper (Nagorno) Garabagh conflict," he told reporters.
Schwarzenberg emphasized that Prague intended to expand its political and economic relations with the South Caucasus states. However, the conflicts flaring in the region are impeding these countries` dynamic development and the deepening of cooperation with regional states. The Czech Republic therefore backs a speedy and peaceful resolution of the lingering disputes.
"Along with Azerbaijan, other S. Caucasus states need to deepen their multi-lateral collaboration with the European Union states, including the Czech Republic. Efforts should be therefore stepped up at resolving the conflicts hampering development and social welfare," the minister said.
The Czech Republic was admitted to the EU in 2004.
