Official chides reports on election postponement
A senior Azerbaijani official has rebuffed media reports saying the
October presidential election may be postponed.
"The reports are nothing but nonsense. This is so ridiculous that there is no need for comment," the head of the President`s Office socio-political department, Ali Hasanov, told AssA-Irada.
Some reports circulated last Wednesday quoting sources at the Council of Europe that the Azerbaijani government had allegedly appealed to the organization over putting off the election.
Hasanov said the authorities had the needed political will to hold a transparent and fair vote that would gain public confidence.
