The influential British Business Year magazine has named Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev Person of the Year for his role in ensuring Azerbaijan's rapid development in the last five years.

The Azerbaijani President was awarded for his merits in the dynamic development of Azerbaijan in the five-year period, active participation in geopolitical world processes, ensuring peace and security as a member of the UN Security Council, launching the first telecommunication satellite Azerspace and the emergence of Azerbaijan as the center of international public, political, economic and humanitarian forums, conferences and sports events.

President Aliyev received Director General of the Business Year magazine Ayse Nazir Valentine, editor-in-chief Jason John and other officials of the magazine on Thursday.

The Azerbaijani President said he appreciated highly informative and topical reports dedicated to Azerbaijan's economic development, foreign relations and other areas.

Jason John presented the Person of the Year award to President Aliyev, emphasizing the invaluable contribution of the Azerbaijani leader to the dynamic development of his country.

President Aliyev thanked the staff members of the magazine for the award and for covering Azerbaijan's achievements in energy, trade, business, investment, culture and other fields.

According to the President, the country's successful development is based on its rapid economic progress. The dependence on the oil and gas factor has decreased in Azerbaijan, as a result of the diversification of the economy and transparent use of oil revenues for the benefit of the people, he noted.

Regarding the rapid development of the ICT sector, the President stressed the development of the space industry in the country. He also underlined the strengthening of the country's growing influence in the international arena.
