Azerbaijani reps attending IPU Assembly in Ecuadorian capital
A parliamentary delegation of Azerbaijan headed by deputy speaker Valeh Alasgarov is attending the 128th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in the Ecuadorian capital of Quito.
The Assembly will see a general debate on the political, economic and social situation in the world with the overall theme of "From unrelenting growth to purposeful development "Buen Vivir": New approaches, new solutions".
The event will feature several sessions, including: Enforcing the responsibility to protect: The role of parliament in safeguarding civilians' lives; Fair trade and innovative financing mechanisms for sustainable development; The use of media, including social media, to enhance citizen engagement and democracy; Approval of the subject items for the 130th Assembly and appointment of the Rapporteurs; and Amendments to the Statutes and Rules of the IPU.
The Azerbaijani MPs will make reports at the Assembly.
On the sidelines of the event the Azerbaijani delegation will meet IPU officials to discuss prospects for deepening the cooperation between the country and the organization. The Azerbaijani MPs will also have meetings with delegates from other participant countries.
