Reports on conduct of protests in Azerbaijan by NDI under scrutiny

Reports on organisation of protest rallies in Azerbaijan by the National Democratic Institute of the U.S. is under investigation and the public will be informed of the outcome, Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said at a joint news conference with Secretary General of OSCE Lamberto Zannier in Baku on Friday.

According to him, any rallies must be held with the permission of the Executive Power of Baku, and the dispersion of the latest protest was due to its illegal nature.

According to several media and social networks, the National Democratic Institute of the U.S. has allocated $2 million to hold protests in Azerbaijan.

"Previously all protest rallies were held in designated areas and faced no interference. If protest rallies are illegal, the police will suppress them," he said.
