The issues of strengthening cooperation between Azerbaijani NGOs and international organisations were discussed in Baku on Monday.

The forum on 'Strengthening cooperation between international organisations and local NGOs' was held in partnership with the alliance of cooperation between the NGO and the Council of State Support to NGOs under the President of Azerbaijan.

Representatives of 40 international organisations and embassies, MPs, heads of leading media outlets and civil society attended the forum.

"Cooperation between local NGOs and international organisations is very important today," chairman of the council Azay Guliyev said at the opening.

"It plays an important role in implementing the international experience in Azerbaijan and informing the world community about the country's prospects," he said.

Guliyev said that this cooperation must be mutually fruitful and based on sincere relationships.

"Some international NGOs demonstrate a biased position towards Azerbaijan, distributing reports based on a partial approach," he stressed.

Local NGOs must use resources at an appropriate level to increase the potential, Guliyev said.

NGOs representatives submitted international organisations' annual reports on human rights and fundamental freedoms for discussion.

A declaration on the prospects of further cooperation between international organisations and local NGOs was adopted at the end of the forum.
