Egyptian news portal "El-Balad" on February 19 published an article with the following headline: "From the statement of the embassy of Azerbaijan in Cairo: Khojaly genocide is the bloodiest event of Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict" (http://www.el-balad.com/403284).

Referring to the statement of the embassy, the article gives extensive information about the genocide stating that Khojaly genocide is one of the most severe international crimes of XXI century. It says that as a result of atrocities committed by Armenian armed groups were brutally killed 613 innocent people, among whom there were 106 women, 63 children and 70 elderly people, 1000 people were injured, 1,275 people were captured and 150 missing.

As to the political and legal assessment of the genocide, it was pointed out in the article that despite the efforts of Armenia, this mass murder was recognized by the legislative bodies of a number of countries.

At the same time, in the final statement of the last summit held in Cairo by heads of states and governments of ECO the call for increased efforts in the area of recognition of Khojaly genocide in the world was made.

In conclusion it was noted that Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must be resolved basing on the normatives of international law, particularly, on the basis of respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan; and Armenia was requested not to avoid responsibility. It was especially emphasized that the resolution of this conflict is the only hope for the future development of the region and good relations between the two neighboring countries.
