New historical documents on Azerbaijan brought from Germany

The History Institute of the National Academy of Sciences has brought to Azerbaijan a number of documents and items related to Azerbaijani history from Berlin archives belonging to the German Foreign Office and the Prussian Privy State Archives, the institute told Trend news agency on Wednesday.

Valuable maps and photos of buildings burned by Armenians in Baku in 1905 and 1906 as well as copies of documents relating to the genocide of Azerbaijanis committed by Armenians, pictures of Azerbaijani oil wells, refineries and factories are among the documents brought from Germany.

Several History Institute members, during a scientific trip to Germany, held discussions with German historians and agreed to hold a joint press conference in Baku, as well as to write scientific papers on Azerbaijani-German relations.

A catalog of documents from the Berlin archives will be published first. Research in Germany's archives will be continued.

Inspired by the idea of the establishment of "Great Armenia", Armenians living in Azerbaijan openly committed large-scale bloody acts against Azerbaijanis in 1905-1907.

The Armenians started their brutal acts in Baku in February 1905 and the atrocities further spread to the regions of Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani villages in the territory of Armenia.

Hundreds of settlements were razed to the ground and thousands of people were brutally killed. The masterminds of these events were also trying to create an unfavorable image about the people of Azerbaijan to conceal the truth and prevent due political and legal assessment of those events.

They tried to take advantage of World War I and the Russian revolution of 1917, and managed to realize their ideas under the pretext of Bolshevism. The realization of a cruel plan of cleansing the population of Azerbaijan in the provinces started by the Baku commune under the guise of fighting "counter-revolutionary elements" in March 1918.

The Armenian crimes have been embedded in the memory of Azerbaijanis. Thousands of Azerbaijani civilians were murdered for the only reason of their national affiliation. The Armenians destroyed homes and burnt people alive. Most of Baku's area turned into ruins with national architectural sites, schools, hospitals, mosques and monuments destroyed.

During the 1918 mass killings, about 30,000 Azerbaijanis were slain by the Armenians and 836 villages were set on fire. Also, 132,000 Azerbaijanis were killed in Erivan.
