Armenia can't explain refusal to join BSEC meeting in Baku
An Armenian delegation did not participate at the General Assembly session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) in Baku this week.
When asked by reporters to explain the reason, BSEC Vice President Asaf Hajiyev said the invitation was sent to the Armenian side in August.
"A document confirming its receipt was obtained, but the Armenian side announced that it allegedly did not receive an invitation and then reported that it had got lost somewhere," Hajiyev said at a press conference following the session of the BSEC General Assembly.
He said that the Armenian side demanded guarantees of safety during their stay in Baku.
"We always guarantee safety at all international events at a high level," he said. "Azerbaijan also participated at a BSEC meeting in Armenia and did not require any security guarantees."
