OIC FMs recognize Khojaly tragedy as genocide

The Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation has for the first time recognized the Khojaly tragedy as an act of genocide, state news agency AzerTac reported.
A relevant draft resolution was submitted to the Council by the Istanbul-based Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation (ICYF-DC).
The resolution was adopted at the 39th session of the Council in Djibouti.
Head of the ICYF-DC delegation Elmaddin Mehdiyev said the draft resolution submitted by the Forum contained a separate item on "Justice for Khojaly" campaign initiated by Leyla Aliyeva, General Coordinator of the Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation.
Under the paragraph, the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation calls on the OIC member states and bodies to actively participate in and support the activity of the campaign and make efforts for the recognition of this genocide act as a crime against humanity at the international and national levels.
Mehdiyev also noted that the meeting welcomed international awarding project "10 young Muslims who can change the world", implemented by the Forum, and called on member states to cooperate in this area.
The project was launched during the Inaugural Conference of the Islamic Cooperation Young Entrepreneurs Network, organized by the Forum in collaboration with the Azerbaijani government in Baku, where it was decided to organize the first awarding ceremony in the Azerbaijani capital in 2013.
According to the resolution, in response to the initiative of OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, to coordinate the activities of young people, building on the success and positive experiences of the member organizations of the Forum, including those operating in Azerbaijan, the Forum was tasked with creating the National Youth Council in the Middle East and North African regions.
