Azerbaijan has sent humanitarian aid to the victims of the disaster in Russia's Dagestani town of Derbent.

On the instruction of President Ilham Aliyev, a humanitarian convoy of 18 trucks left for Derbent, commander of civil defense forces, Major-General Ilham Abdullayev told journalists.

He noted that the humanitarian aid consists of sugar, pasta, vegetable oil, rice, tea, flour, blankets, medicines, as well as refrigerators and heaters.

The humanitarian aid will reach the destination on Thursday.

Large-scale natural disaster struck Derbent in the night of Oct 9, when the city was covered by a flood of water and mud. Heavy rain caused mud flows from the mountains. As a result ground floors of 600 homes in Derbent and Sabnava village were flooded. Seven people became the victims of the disaster.
