Seismic stations to assess geodynamics at Azeri offshore fields
Several seismic stations to be installed on the seabed in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea will evaluate the geodynamic state of hydrocarbon deposits, Deputy Prime Minister Abid Sharifov has said.
"Seabed seismic stations will be installed in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian for the first time to carry out comprehensive research and improve the quality of the Republican Seismological Service Center. They will accurately register earthquakes occurring along the seabed and evaluate the geodynamic situation at the oilfields," Sharifov told the international conference, "Seismicity, earthquake prediction and seismic stability of buildings", in Baku on Monday.
Powerful earthquakes occur frequently in Azerbaijan as the country's territory is a seismically active area, he added.
