European lawmaker: Azerbaijan an example of democracy for Islamic states
Azerbaijan is an example of democracy for other Islamic countries, France's member of the European Parliament Rachida Dati said on Friday during a roundtable on multiculturalism issues within an international humanitarian forum in Baku.
"Is democracy possible in Islam today?" Dati queried. "It doesn't work in Arab countries where the regimes are strict and revolutions occur. Europe can't find the key to a solution of these problems. We have to show the world that Islam is neither a terrorist organization nor a threat to the world and humanity. Azerbaijan is working in this direction and we are grateful to you for this."
The Baku forum is a high-profile global scientific and political platform for tackling the challenges facing humanity in the 21st century, holding discussions and exchange of views on a wide range of issues of humanitarian cooperation.
About 700 representatives from 70 countries, including 11 Nobel Prize winners, 10 former presidents, heads of numerous countries' governments, ministers, well-known educators, men of science and culture are in attendance.
The main goal of the Baku forum is to create humanitarian and integration incentives, along with bringing humanitarian issues to the forefront of global agenda.
Baku declaration will be adopted following discussions on various issues both at the plenary and departmental meetings to be held as part of the two-day event.
