Turkey PM affirms support for Azerbaijan on Karabakh
Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has held a congress joined by about 200 people from a number of countries, Azerbaijan's AzerTAc state news agency reported.
An Azerbaijani delegation led by the ruling YAP party's deputy chairman, Ali Ahmadov, and Milli Majlis (parliament) member Eldar Ibrahimov participated in the congress.
Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Armenia and its supporters must be aware of the position of Turkey.
"We will not alter our position until our Azerbaijani brothers' rights are reinstated," Erdogan said.
Since a brutal war in the early 1990s, Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of neighboring Azerbaijan's territory, despite four standing UN resolutions on their unconditional pullout and condemnation by a number of other international organizations.
Erdogan, in a two-and-a-half-hour speech, delivered in front of a jubilant crowd of party delegates, also detailed his party's achievements after nearly a decade in power, while also laying out a roadmap for what his role could be in the future.
Erdogan was re-elected Sunday as leader of his party, securing his seat for three more years.
