Half of Azeri prosecuting bodies' employees young - top prosecutor
Young people make up half of the employees in Azerbaijani prosecuting bodies, Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov said in an article published on Saturday on the eve of the Day of Prosecutors.
The article, carried by the newspaper Azerbaijan, says young lawyers have conducted 10 selections since 2002 and 499 people were hired to prosecuting bodies on the basis of democratic and transparent procedures.
As a result, the number of employees of the new generation has increased 16-fold and hit about 50 percent of the staff.
Garalov added that after the eleventh selection due this year is completed, this ratio will change further, and most of the prosecutors will be newly hired employees.
According to Garalov, some 200 people holding high-ranking positions are those admitted to prosecuting bodies as a result of the previous selections. 85 of them were appointed to the Prosecutor General's Office.
