Russian-Azeri relations 'positive despite some differences' - analyst
A leading Russian analyst has said the relations between Baku and Moscow are "consistently positive despite some differences".
"The current state of Azerbaijani-Russian relations is satisfactory. I am sure that these relations are a factor of stability in the region," said Sergey Mikheyev, director general of the Russian Center for Political Conjuncture.
Mikheyev was speaking at the Baku-Moscow teleconference entitled "Russia-Azerbaijan: 20 years of relations", dedicated to the 20th anniversary of signing an agreement on free trade between the two countries, which is marked on September 30.
According to Mikheyev, the understanding between Baku and Moscow, which is "one of the cornerstones in the foundation of stability in the Caspian region", is of great importance.
"In the economic dimension, the development of relations is not bad, but they still could be better, particularly in the fields of investment and innovations. This is a perspective field of cooperation, he said.
Azerbaijani political analyst Rasim Agayev is also satisfied with the current level of relations between the two countries.
Agayev said the ruling elites realize that it's difficult to survive without each other.
"Russia has an extensive investment and innovation potential which could be utilized by Azerbaijan. However, the Nagorno Karabakh conflict remains a problem and Moscow has to develop an adequate approach to the issue of territorial integrity," Agayev noted.
