EC ex-president: South Caucasus stability is vital
Stability in the South Caucasus region is very important for the European Union, ex-president of the European Commission and Luxembourg's former Prime Minister Jacques Santer said in Baku on Thursday.
Cooperation on democracy, human rights and freedoms is also important, he said at the international conference "Bridge-building".
"Azerbaijan and the EU closely cooperate in education, environment, defense and on other issues," Santer said. He stressed the pivotal role of civil society in this cooperation.
Santer said Azerbaijan is a tolerant country that is open to the rest of the world. It has also become an important hub of energy and infrastructure, he added.
