Moldova awards Azeri envoy for book on Karabakh
Azerbaijani Ambassador to Moldova Namig Aliyev has been awarded a diploma of the Ministry of Culture and the National Commission of Moldova for UNESCO for the book titled "International law and the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict", News.az website reported.
According to the Azerbaijani embassy in the country, the book, published in Moldova, had been translated by the Chief Scientific Secretary of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, Professor Ion Guchak.
The presentation of the book was held on February 24 and was dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the genocide of Azerbaijanis committed by Armenian armed forces during the Karabakh war, and on April 27 it was presented at the 16th International Exhibition of Children's and Young People's Books at International Exhibition Centre Moldexpo.
Following the exhibition, the Azerbaijani embassy in Moldova was awarded for its "significant contribution to the development of cross-cultural relations through the promotion of books for children and young people".
The Karabakh conflict emerged in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. The two countries fought a lengthy war that ended with the signing of a precarious cease-fire in 1994. Armenian armed forces have since occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory, including Nagorno Karabakh, defying UN resolutions. Peace talks, brokered by the United States, Russia and France through the OSCE Minsk Group, have been largely fruitless so far.
