Residence of Azeri ambassador to Syria and Lebanon to be transferred to Beirut
The residence of the Azerbaijani ambassador to Syria and Lebanon
will be temporarily transferred to Beirut, Ambassador Mahir Aliyev
told Trend news agency.
"The events in Lebanon require the Azerbaijani diplomatic mission
to be based in Beirut," Aliyev said.
The ambassador said that he will fly to Beirut in early October.
The embassy employees in Syria and Lebanon residing in Damascus left Syria in early August due to a threat to security in the country.
Anti-government protests have been ongoing in Syria for a year and a half.
According to UN, the total number of victims of the conflict in
Syria is nearing 20,000.
More than 230,000 have become refugees with around three million in
need of humanitarian assistance. The Syrian authorities say they
oppose the well-armed militants.
