Azerbaijan’s relations with Hungary to further develop - ambassador
Relations between Azerbaijan and Hungary continue to develop as before and the diplomatic note issued by the Hungarian Foreign Ministry to Azerbaijan on military officer Ramil Safarov's case has not affected bilateral relations, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Hungary Vilayat Guliyev said at a meeting of Azerbaijani ambassadors in Baku on Friday.
The Hungarian government earlier condemned Azerbaijan for releasing the Azerbaijani officer, who was extradited by Hungarian authorities to his homeland.
Safarov, convicted in Hungary for killing an Armenian officer in Budapest in 2004, returned to Azerbaijan on August 31. On the same day he was pardoned by a presidential order.
Following the handover of Ramil Safarov, Armenian terror groups, inspired by Yerevan's provocative and aggressive position, began threatening diplomatic missions and citizens of Azerbaijan abroad.
A document sent by the Armenian Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia (ASALA), a terror group that has been largely inactive in the past decades, received on September 3 by the embassy of Azerbaijan in Hungary, indicated as a target Azerbaijani diplomats, Azerbaijani students studying abroad, businessmen, activists of diaspora organizations, and claimed they will be killed.
"Despite ASALA's threats, the Azerbaijani embassy continues to operate normally, but with enhanced security measures," Ambassador Guliyev said.
"The Azerbaijani embassy in Hungary continues to receive letters threatening Azerbaijani diplomats, which have been submitted to the country's relevant agencies for investigation," Guliyev said.
