Azerbaijan attaches importance to democracy - IPI official
Azerbaijan attaches importance to the issues of democracy, and the holding of an oil, gas and media conference proves this fact, International Press Institute (IPI) Azerbaijan National Committee chairman, Umud Mirzayev, said at the opening of the event in Baku on Tuesday.
The conference once again proves that journalists are bound with common values, he told journalists.
"The oil and gas sector is always in the focus of attention for international media outlets and plays a significant role in presenting important information in this field to the public. Today's conference is a good opportunity to exchange opinions and develop cooperation," Mirzayev said.
IPI Executive Director Alison Bethel McKenzie in turn said IPI underlines the significance of media freedom and independence.
According to her, mass media is a key part of society and a significant part in democratic processes.
"Mass media and human rights have to be interconnected," McKenzie said.
