Azeri president's aide: Relations with Turkey strategic and "deepened"

Azerbaijan and Turkey enjoy strategic and "deepened" cooperation based on the two countries' comprehensive support for each other in bilateral and multilateral relations, according to an Azerbaijani presidential aide.

"Both countries use all their capabilities and always take mutual interests into account, while facing each other's both internal and external problems," Ali Hasanov, head of social and political affairs department at Azerbaijan's Presidential Administration, said Thursday, commenting on Azerbaijani-Turkish relations.

Hasanov said Azerbaijan adheres to the same principles in its relations with other neighboring countries. "With some states, these relations are in an initial form, while with others - in a deepened form, and with some they are in the form of strategic cooperation," he said.

"In most cases, Azerbaijan establishes its relations with neighbors based on the principles of strategic partnership, friendship and neighborhood. Azerbaijan has relevant agreements with most of the neighboring states, except Armenia [with which it faces a bitter conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh]. In particular, such agreements have been concluded with the Russian Federation, Iran, Georgia, Ukraine and other countries," Hasanov said.
