Azeri ex-speaker dies
Former speaker of Azerbaijan's parliament Murtuz Alesgerov died on Tuesday at the age of 83.
Alesgerov was born in Ganja city on September 20, 1928. He graduated from Azerbaijan State University with a major in law. From 1954, he had served as a senior lecturer at the Law Faculty of the University, then as an associate professor, and from 1957 worked as head of a subdepartment.
In 1993-1996 he was rector of Baku State University.
From 1996 to 2005, he served as chairman of the Milli Majlis (parliament).
In the last years of his life he lectured at Baku State University.
