Azeri soldier captured by Armenian forces
A soldier of Azerbaijani armed forces was captured on the contact line with Armenian troops last Thursday, Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry said.
Firuz Farajov, 20, was taken prisoner near Azerbaijan's western Tovuz region after losing his way.
Another Azerbaijani soldier was wounded as a result of a ceasefire violation by Armenian armed forces on the frontline close to the Gadabay region. The 19-year-old Elmir Mirzayev was hospitalized and his health condition is satisfactory, Azerbaijani Defense Ministry deputy spokesman Teymur Abdullayev told Trend news agency.
The two South Caucasus republics signed a precarious cease-fire in 1994 following a lengthy war. About 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory, including the Nagorno Karabakh region, has since been occupied by Armenian armed forces. Long-standing efforts by US, Russian and French mediators have been largely fruitless so far, and clashes on the frontline continue.
