Azeri ruling party names nominee for presidential vote
The ruling Yeni (New) Azerbaijan Party (YAP) has announced its chairman, President Ilham Aliyev, as its candidate for the presidential elections due in 2013.
YAP deputy chairman Ali Ahmadov told media Tuesday that several media outlets are apparently engaged in provocations over a candidate from the party.
``A candidate from the ruling party is the candidate supported by the Azerbaijani people,`` Ahmadov continued. ``We have repeatedly stated that the candidacy of the chairman of the ruling party, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, is supported not only by all members of the party, but by most people.``
Ahmadov said the dynamic development of Azerbaijan`s economy during the presidency of Ilham Aliyev and a successful foreign policy are the basis for this choice.
YAP will hold a congress to formally nominate its candidate on the eve of the elections, which will be held in fall 2013.
