Party leader predicts possible collapse of opposition group
The Public Chamber, an Azerbaijani umbrella opposition group, will fall apart if it decides to nominate a single candidate for the 2013 presidential elections, an opposition party leader said.
``The Public Chamber`s decision to nominate a single candidate would not be a factor significantly impacting the socio-political situation in Azerbaijan,`` Azerbaijan Democratic Party chairman Sardar Jalaloglu told Trend news agency. ``I think that the Public Chamber will fail to nominate a single candidate.``
According to Jalaloglu, the nomination of a single election candidate in Azerbaijan is becoming a problem because the candidates are not significantly superior to each other.
The Public Chamber comprises Musavat, Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, Azerbaijan National Independence Party and Classical Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, as well as a number of NGOs and public figures.
