Media`s view not German govt`s stance: envoy

The position of several German media outlets on Azerbaijan does not reflect the stance of Germany`s government, Ambassador Herbert Quelle has said.

``Germany has no negative attitude toward Azerbaijan. We are interested in developing cooperation,`` Quelle was quoted as saying at a forum organized for businessmen from Azerbaijan and the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Quelle said the sharp rise in criticism against Azerbaijan emerged after the country`s victory at the Eurovision song contest in 2011. Prior to that, the people in Germany knew too little about the country, but after its Eurovision win their interest considerably increased, he said.

``Some Azerbaijani media outlets claim that the German leadership controls the German media in the area of human rights, media freedom and political prisoners, but by the example of the former president Christian Wulff the entire world was convinced that the German media are free in their activities,`` Quelle said.

Quelle also denied rumors that the German embassy in Baku creates problems in issuing visas on orders from the authorities.

``Those who are interested in our work may obtain information on our website and, in case of problems, we try to solve them,`` the ambassador added.
