Georgia renaming Azeri-populated regions
The Georgian regions populated by about 500,000 Azerbaijanis are
being renamed, an Azeri parliament member has said.
A member of the Azerbaijani delegation in the Parliamentary
Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Gultakin Hajiyeva, said
the renaming of geographic names had become the policy of some
countries. She said that whereas Armenians once changed the names
of Azerbaijani places, today Georgians have become more active in
this regard.
"Such cases must be prevented as well as work done on the official
level to preserve the names of Azerbaijan's historical regions,"
the MP said.
