Azerbaijan may ban abortions - MP
Abortions may be banned in Azerbaijan by passing relevant legislation, a senior lawmaker was quoted by APA news agency as saying.
Hadi Rajabli, chairman of the Azerbaijani parliament`s social policy committee, said the prohibition of abortions could be reflected in the Family Code and the Law ``On protection of health``:
``Abortions due to the child`s sex [undesired by one or both parents] bring about serious consequences,`` Rajabli said.
``Abortions have been banned in a number of countries, such as China and Iran. An abortion is barbarism, murder and [an indicator of] the low level of people`s sexual education.``
The committee chairman added that as an exception, abortions should be allowed under law due to some diseases suffered by the mother.
