Minister offers to set up Russian lyceums
Azerbaijani Education Minister Misir Mardanov has offered to establish Russian lyceums in the country, the Education Ministry`s website said.
Mardanov made the proposal at a meeting with a delegation led by the head of Russia`s Federal Agency for CIS Affairs, Konstantin Kosachev.
Mardanov said public interest in learning the Russian language has recently increased in the former Soviet republic compared to the early 1990s.
He stressed the need to take steps to improve education in Russian language schools in Azerbaijani regions.
Kosachev welcomed the teaching of the Russian language in Azerbaijani educational institutions and the work done to provide suitable conditions for learning Russian in the country.
Kosachev accepted Mardanov`s proposal and said this issue would be worked out soon.
