Republic Day to be marked in US town
Mayor of Anchorage Mark Begich has ruled to announce May 28,
Azerbaijan's Day of Republic, as the Azerbaijani national day in
the Alaskan town.
The degree says that on May 28, 1918, Azerbaijan became the first-ever independent country in the Muslim world. Although the country's independence did not last long, Azerbaijan regained freedom after quitting the Soviet Union in 1991.
"Every year, Azerbaijan marks May 28 as Independence Day.
