Ruling party: Hollande may aid Karabakh settlement

French President-elect Francois Hollande may be active in resolving the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict, senior Yeni (New) Azerbaijan Party official Mubariz Gurbanli told Trend news agency on Tuesday.

Hollande, the Socialist Party candidate, won the presidential election in France on Sunday, defeating incumbent President Nicolas Sarkozy.

``I hope that after anti-Turkic actions and statements by Sarkozy, which didn`t yield any result, Hollande will have a clear opinion on the matter,`` said Gurbanli, YAP`s Deputy Executive Secretary.

Gurbanli noted that the solution to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict depends not on the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs and the co-chairing countries -- France, the United States and Russia -- but on joint efforts of the co-chairs.

``If the three countries at the same time put pressure on Armenia, you can achieve result,`` he said.

Gurbanli noted that in the initial period after coming to power, the Socialists` focus will be on economic issues.

``Hollande will try to keep the given promises and will direct more power to solving economic problems,`` he added.
