Simultaneous transplant of two organs performed
Simultaneous liver and kidney transplants have been carried out in Azerbaijan for the first time, the senior doctor at a Health Ministry hospital told Trend news agency.
Habib Yuzbashev said the surgery was conducted by Azerbaijani surgeons Mirjalal Kyazymi, Eldar Ahmadov and Elnur Farajov and lasted 24 hours.
The operation was carried out on a 40-year-old patient who had cirrhosis of the liver and kidney neuropathy. First liver and then a kidney was transplanted to the patient.
The patient is in good condition, doctors say.
