Youths protest China over `support` for Syrian regime

About 20 Azerbaijani youths protested outside the Chinese embassy in Baku last week condemning what they called Beijing`s support for the Syrian regime`s violence against its people, the Dalga (Wave) movement, which conducted the protest, told Mediaforum website.

Protesters came out against the support of China, a permanent UN Security Council member, for the killings of Syrian citizens on orders from President Bashar al-Assad`s regime, and denounced the country`s blocking UN resolutions condemning the Syrian authorities, Dalga said.

The youths, wearing shirts with the names of Chinese thinkers, held posters indicating slogans in English.

The UN says more than 9,000 people have died since pro-democracy protests erupted in Syria a year ago. The Syrian government insists it is combating ``armed terrorist gangs`` who are seeking to destabilize Syria.
