Azerbaijan does not recognize `elections` in Georgian rebel region
Azerbaijan`s Foreign Ministry does not recognize the so-called ``parliamentary elections`` held in Georgia`s unrecognized region of Abkhazia on Saturday and firmly believes in the importance of constructive continuation of the current negotiations for a possible solution to the conflict, it said in a statement.
Military action was launched in the Georgian territory of South Ossetia in August 2008. Later the Russian troops occupied the Tskhinvali city and pushed the Georgian military back. Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in late August. In response, Tbilisi broke off diplomatic relations with Moscow and announced the two unrecognized republics as the occupied territories.
