Save the Children aids Azeris from low-income families
Save the Children, the leading independent organization working to help children in need around the world, held a conference in Baku on Wednesday aiming to assist Azerbaijani children and youths from low-income families.
The "Sustainable livelihood opportunities for vulnerable children and youth" final conference was held in the frames of the Creating Livelihoods for Adults Program (CLAP), which sought to improve the skills of disadvantaged children and young people, develop their abilities and help them to operate independently in the society afterwards. The program was implemented from November 2009 to February 2012.
Leslie Wilson, Save the Children’s Country Director for Azerbaijan and Georgia, said, "Many windows to new possibilities and new opportunities have been opened at state care institutions for young people."
The conference brought together Azerbaijan government officials, international stakeholders, NGO partners, and private sector leaders.
Save the Children has been active in Azerbaijan since December 1993, arriving in response to the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
