Iranian hackers crash Azeri TV channel, airline websites

The websites of Azerbaijan’s state television channel AzTV and the state airline AzAL have been crashed, apparently by hackers based in neighboring Iran.

The websites of Sports Azerbaijan and Culture TV channels operating under AzTV were also attacked on Wednesday evening by a group of hackers calling themselves Iranian Cyber Army.

The sites of AzTV and Culture TV are back on track, while Sports Azerbaijan is working to restore its Web page.

On AzAL’s website, www.azal.az, the hackers, who call themselves Iranian Cocaine Fighters, made an anti-Azerbaijan post. The site’s operation was resumed in a short time.

The attacks have taken place amid tensions between the Azerbaijani and Iranian governments.

In January, 25 government and public websites of Azerbaijan were crashed by hackers, and an official probe revealed that the attacks were carried out from Iran and the Netherlands.

Tehran has reportedly been displeased by friendlier links between Azerbaijan and Israel in recent months.
Azerbaijan has accused Iran of sponsoring Islamic radicals on its territory.
