Turkish parliament panel condemns 1992 massacre of Azeris
A Turkish parliamentary panel has issued a statement condemning the Khojaly massacre committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis during the Karabakh war in the early 1990s.
The statement was unanimously adopted at the Turkish Grand National Assembly's foreign relations committee during a meeting on Wednesday, the commission’s chairman, Volkan Bozkir, told Turkey's Anadolu news agency.
"Khojaly is a black page in human history written by the Armenian side," the statement says.
It stresses that 613 Azerbaijanis were brutally killed on the night of February 25-26, 1992 in Khojaly in Azerbaijan’s occupied Nagorno Karabakh region during an attack by Armenian troops.
"The events of Khojaly are a big shame in the history of humanity and a crime against humanity under international law. As a brotherly nation, we, the Turkish people, always feel pain in our hearts because of the massacre and condemn it.
"Turkey will continue to support Azerbaijan in its struggle to increase awareness about the Khojaly massacre, committed by people with no moral values, and to hold its perpetrators accountable," the statement said.
In addition to those killed, 1,275 people were captured during the attack on Khojaly, and hundreds of others were injured and went missing.
