UN official’s mother brutally killed in Baku
The mother of the United Nations food agency’s representative in Baku was brutally killed last Friday.
Elmira Ismayilova, 73, was found dead in her home with multiple stab wounds. After killing the hostess, the attacker set her home on fire to hide the traces of his crime.
Ismayilova’s neighbor has been detained on charges of murder. Natig Humbatov, 23, admitted during questioning that he had committed the crime to rob her home.
Fuad Huseynov, head of the UN World Food Program’s (WFP) local representation, told the Baku-based ANS TV channel that first, it was merely believed that fire had broken out.
"Everybody thought this was a fire," Huseynov said. "My mother died in the kitchen. [But] a forensic expertise revealed that she had 15 to 16 knife wounds. Her body and the apartment were burned."
