Aliyev pledges more support to NATO on Afghanistan
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Wednesday held talks with NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen in Brussels on bilateral cooperation and key regional and international issues, the alliance’s chief said after the meeting.
Rasmussen told a news conference that NATO attaches great importance to its consultations with partner countries and his meeting with President Aliyev underscored that significance.
According to him, NATO and Azerbaijan share many political priorities and security interests.
"NATO greatly values its partnership with Azerbaijan. We are grateful for Azerbaijan’s contribution in Afghanistan. We are also content with the course of work on the Action Plan signed last year to expand our cooperation with Azerbaijan," Rasmussen said.
NATO and Azerbaijan agreed last December a new Individual Partnership Action Plan, which will provide the basis for bilateral cooperation in the next two years.
