Azerbaijan’s joining Seoul nuclear summit to promote security in S Caucasus – envoy

Azerbaijan will turn into one of the countries that have undertaken the responsibility for world stability and contribute to security in the South Caucasus region after attending a summit on nuclear security in Seoul next month, Korean Ambassador Lee Ji-ha said Tuesday.

50 countries and four international organizations will participate at the second summit on nuclear security, which will be held on March 26-27.

"The summit will discuss three main issues: the strengthening of international cooperation in preventing nuclear threats, the effective protection of nuclear materials, and prevention of illegal trafficking of nuclear materials. In addition to that, protection of radioactive materials will be discussed," Ji-ha told the press.

He said Azerbaijan has made extensive efforts in the area of nuclear security in recent years. On security in the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan is cooperating with the other Caspian states.

"Taking all this into account, Korea has invited Azerbaijan to the summit," Ji-ha added.
